Emergency services assisting with wild weather hitting SA
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) has deployed 39 personnel today to assist with severe weather and floods expected to impact South Australia.
SES volunteers and DFES staff from the Perth metropolitan area and South West will be deployed for five days to assist in the Adelaide, Mount Lofty and Mid North areas.
DFES Assistant Commissioner Metropolitan Operations Darren Klemm said the deployment will give personnel an opportunity to gain valuable frontline experience and assist communities under severe threat.
“We are committed to helping the people of South Australia in their time of need, just as they have returned the favour to Western Australia in the past,” Assistant Commissioner Klemm said.
“The contingent has specialised skills in responding to flood and storm damage, including working from heights, tarping roofs, undertaking flood rescues, and removing large fallen trees.
“This deployment will be an invaluable experience and I’m sure that our personnel will bring home new knowledge from their counterparts in South Australia.”
