The Department of Fire and Emergency Services is helping Western Australians and visitors to stay safe during emergencies with the launch of the new Emergency WA app, providing access to quick, reliable and relevant emergency information.

The app, now available in the App Store or Google Play, delivers instant notifications on your mobile device about warnings, incidents, Total Fire Bans and elevated Fire Danger Ratings in your area.

Create up to 10 watch zones for areas that are important to you, such as your home, family members’ homes and your children’s school. You can also customise the types of notifications you’d like to receive.

You can also set watch zones for upcoming travel destinations to be notified of warnings, park closures, Total Fire Bans or other helpful information for trip planning.

Watch the tutorial for a step-by-step guide on creating watch zones and choosing your push notification settings.

Fire and Emergency Services Commissioner Darren Klemm AFSM highlighted the importance of the much-anticipated app.

“Since 2016, the Emergency WA website has given the community a trusted and reliable source to get emergency information,” Commissioner Klemm said.

“The app builds on that capability by providing push notifications for warnings and incidents connecting you with fast and reliable access to alerts and warnings to your area.

“I encourage all Western Australians and visitors to the State to download the app to ensure you receive official emergency information when it matters most.”

Remember, emergencies can happen suddenly and move quickly. Familiarise yourself with different ways to stay informed, be aware of your surroundings, stay in touch with your neighbours and take immediate action regardless of how you learn about an emergency.
