Heatwave a reminder to be bushfire ready

DFES Assistant Commissioner Darren Klemm said emergency services were on high alert.

“DFES is ready to respond, and we call upon the community to be ready to act immediately if a fire starts,” Assistant Commissioner Klemm said.

“You need to know what to do if a bushfire threatens your area – whether that’s leaving early for a safer place or staying to actively defend your property.

“If you decide to stay and defend your property, you should be prepared to the highest standard, including having a generator and an independent water supply.

“Be aware of your surroundings and if a bushfire starts, act immediately for your own safety.

“Don’t wait for an official warning before you act.”

Assistant Commissioner Klemm said DFES was receiving regular briefings from the Bureau of Meteorology and pre-formed incident management teams were on standby ready to be deployed across southern WA.

“Firefighters are doing everything they can to prepare for bushfires, and you can play your part by being vigilant and putting your plan into action early.”
