Karla Katitjin Fire Knowledge Forum 2026 strengthens collaboration across the bushfire sector

Fire practitioners, researchers, Traditional Owners, government agencies and industry representatives came together at the Karla Katitjin Fire Knowledge Forum 2026 to share knowledge, explore emerging challenges and strengthen partnerships in planned fire and bushfire management.

The two-day forum was hosted by the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) at the Bushfire Centre of Excellence on Bindjareb Country and in collaboration with AFAC.

Participants from across Western Australia and interstate exchanged experiences, discussed current research and showcased innovative approaches to bushfire mitigation and land management.

The forum featured presentations, panel discussions and networking opportunities that explored current challenges and opportunities in fire management. Key themes included risk management, operational planning, capability development, cultural fire practices, managing diverse landscapes and building social licence for planned burning.

By bringing together a diverse range of perspectives and expertise, the event encouraged meaningful conversations and knowledge exchange to support innovation and improved bushfire outcomes for communities and Country.

The Bushfire Centre of Excellence continues to support capability development and foster stronger connections across the bushfire sector.
