Recovery begins for the Perth Hills bushfires

The group, which is supported by the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES), will ensure a whole-of-government approach to recovery efforts.

Fire and Emergency Services Commissioner Darren Klemm ASFM said the group will ensure a personalised approach is taken to help people impacted get back on their feet.

“The group will meet on a regular basis and will oversee all aspects of the recovery process to ensure State Government, local government and not-for-profits are working together to address issues as quickly as possible,” Commissioner Klemm said.

“The group met for the first-time last Friday, 5 February and discussions were focused on immediate recovery activities, including the clean up and damage assessment, as well as the longer-term impacts of the fire.

“The road to recovery will be a long process, and DFES is committed to providing on-going support to help people through this challenging time.”

The State Recovery Coordination Group is comprised of State and Local Government representatives and not-for-profit organisations, with Dr Ron Edwards appointed as the State Recovery Controller.

The Wooroloo bushfire that started on Monday 1 February, burnt through 10,900 hectares, and destroyed 86 properties.

The Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements have been activated to provide disaster assistance to assist communities in the City of Swan and Shire of Mundaring.
